Condition 1: Subject to any prohibitions or restrictions contained in any other condition(s), the designated centre shall be operated at all times in accordance with the Statement of Purpose within the footprint of the designated centre on the floor plan received on 07/08/2024. The registered provider shall only provide for the specific care and support needs, and services, within the facilities as set out the Statement of Purpose, as agreed with the Chief Inspector at the time of registration. Any changes to the specific care and support needs and services provided must be agreed in advance with the Chief Inspector. Condition 2: Only persons aged 18 years or older shall be accommodated at the designated centre at any time. Condition 3: The maximum number of persons that may be accommodated at the designated centre is: 23.

What the latest inspection found

St Brigid's Hospital provides residential care for 23 residents with various needs including dementia and palliative care. Residents and visitors described the home as friendly and homely, with kind and caring staff. However, some areas of the building and furniture are worn and not very comfortable, and some safety and privacy concerns were noted, such as unlocked nurses' stations and lack of call-bells in bathrooms. The management has systems in place but needs to improve follow-up on action plans and staff training, especially for activities and managing challenging behaviour.

Residents and visitors described staff as kind, caring, and very patient.
There is a varied schedule of activities and residents are consulted about activities.
Residents have access to an enclosed garden and several communal areas including an oratory and sensory room.
Food is described as tasty with good choice, and residents receive assistance respectfully.
Safeguarding measures are in place with staff knowledgeable about abuse recognition and escalation.

What needed to improve

Some furniture in bedrooms and communal areas is worn, damaged, and not comfortable.
Nurses' stations were left unlocked with residents' information easily accessible.
