Condition 1: Subject to any prohibitions or restrictions contained in any other condition(s), the designated centre shall be operated at all times in accordance with the Statement of Purpose within the footprint of the designated centre on the floor plan received 14/03/2024. The registered provider shall only provide for the specific care and support needs, and services, within the facilities as set out the Statement of Purpose, as agreed with the Chief Inspector at the time of registration. Any changes to the specific care and support needs and services provided must be agreed in advance with the Chief Inspector. Condition 2: Only persons aged 18 years or older shall be accommodated at the designated centre at any time. Condition 3: The maximum number of persons that may be accommodated at the designated centre is: 18.

What the latest inspection found

St Lazerian's House is a small care home for 16 residents with low to medium dependency needs. The home is bright, well maintained, and has lovely gardens that residents enjoy. There is no nurse on duty at night, and some fire safety improvements are needed, including better fire doors, emergency lighting, and storage practices. A new conservatory room has been built but is not yet in use due to pending fire safety certification.

What needed to improve

Fire safety needs improvement, including fire doors, emergency lighting, and storage of flammable items.
No fire extinguisher is present near the stove, which poses a fire risk.
The new conservatory room lacks required fire safety certification and a door to the escape route.
There is no bath available for residents who may wish to use one.
Night staffing is minimal with only one staff member on duty, who would have to manage evacuations alone in an emergency.
